Home Affairs does not publish a fixed processing time for the subclass 408 Entertainment Activities stream. Its visa processing time guide tool shows how long recently decided applications took and is a guide only. Incomplete applications, missing documents and verification checks all add time. Plan in weeks, lodge as soon as contracts are signed, and never book non-refundable travel against a visa that has not been granted.
What Home Affairs publishes
There is no service standard for this stream. The Department points applicants to its visa processing time guide, which reports how long recently decided applications took, and states plainly that it is "a guide only and not specific to your application". Home Affairs also says it cannot give status updates on applications that are still within the standard processing time.
That means any specific number you read on a third-party site is either historical or a guess. 408visa quotes the current guide figure on the assessment call, dated, and does not put a number on this page.
What slows it down
Home Affairs lists three things that make an application take longer:
- the application is not filled in correctly
- documents are missing, or the Department needs more information
- it takes time to verify the information supplied
In practice the common ones on entertainment applications are: the wrong category, no evidence of union consultation for a category that needs it, an invitation letter without a full dated itinerary, family members whose documents were not attached at lodgement, and character or health checks triggered late. Each is avoidable with a complete pack, which is why 408visa checks every document before anyone presses lodge.
How to plan
- Lodge as soon as contracts are signed. The itinerary letter can be issued the same week.
- Build the tour schedule around the grant. Hold flights, do not buy them, until the grant letter is in hand.
- Lodge the whole party together where possible, so one coordinator can track one batch.
- Get health examinations and police certificates started early for anyone likely to be asked.
- Do not change dates or venues after lodging without telling the Temporary Specialist Entry Centre; a change after grant needs permission first.
Chasing status
Applicants can see whether Home Affairs has asked for more information in ImmiAccount. 408visa tracks every application in the party on one sheet and chases outstanding documents, but nobody can speed up the Department's own assessment. If a show date is genuinely at risk, say so on the assessment form and the desk will tell you honestly whether it is achievable.

Can a 408 visa be fast-tracked or expedited?
Home Affairs does not offer a paid priority service for the subclass 408 and cannot give status updates inside the standard processing time. The only real accelerator is a complete, correctly categorised application lodged early.
Can I travel to Australia while my 408 visa is being processed?
You must hold a valid visa to enter Australia. If you applied from outside Australia, wait for the grant. If you applied in Australia you may hold a bridging visa while the decision is made, but a Bridging visa A or C ceases if you leave and has no right of return.
What happens if my tour dates change while the visa is processing?
Tell the Temporary Specialist Entry Centre. The times and places of engagements in the application are part of what is approved, and changes after grant need permission before they happen.
